Economically with water
By acquiring the good practice with water consumption you may save energy and money. The following hints provide a good basis for this.
- The application of water saving WC tanks reduces water consumption. A traditional WC tank consumes three times as much water as the versions equipped with the economy button.
- Dripping taps should be fixed as soon as possible; otherwise a considerable amount of water is wasted.
- Use water saving shower head and tap.
- Take a shower rather than a bath in the tub: the water and energy consumption of a bath taken in tub filled with water is threefold.
- Use a glass for brushing your teeth and close the tap meanwhile.
- Nobody is willing to do so, but if the tap is closed while soaping, a great deal of water is saved.
- Stop the water while shaving, too.
- Adjust the water temperature to your actual needs; too hot water consumes much energy unnecessarily.
- Switch off the hot water boiler before long pauses and use up the warmed up water.
- In the event of electric boilers adjust the water temperature directly on the boiler. This way you can save water since it takes less time to adjust the water temperature at the tap.
- Waters your plants preferably with rainwater collected in a reservoir do not use tap water.
- Buy only a washing machine with an ‘A’ energy efficiency classification
- Start washing only if the machine is full. The half program does not mean a considerable saving.
- Wash only seriously soiled clothes at a high temperature. The average soiled clothing will be clean even at 40°C.
- Switch off the iron directly before finishing the ironing and finish if off with the residual heat.
- Use a heat reflecting ironing board.
- The half program does not mean half water quantity but half clothes quantity, so you do not save water with it. Using the half program twice consumes more electricity and water than using the basic program once!
- The usage of the dishwasher is remunerative only after a meal for four people at least.
- Always use the dishwasher only fully loaded. The electricity and water consumption of a half loaded dishwasher is the same as of a fully loaded one.
- Set the dishwasher to the suitable water hardness.
- Do not rinse the dirty pot in running water but select a program suitable to the level of dirt.
- You can save energy if you use the economic and short programs for slightly dirty pots.
